The Java British National Grid Converter and The Java Irish Grid Converter

These programs are converting coordinates from and into following coordinate systems: British National Grid (BNG), Irish Grid, longitude and latitude and DBX. Included Map-Dates are the Ordnance Survey Great Britain 1936 (OSGB36), Irland 1965 and the World Geodetic System 1984 (WGS84).

These programs are Freeware, and in no event will the author of The Java British National Grid Converter and The Java Irish Grid Converter or its suppliers be liable for any damages, including, without limitation, direct, indirect, special, incidental or consequential damages of any kind, even if the author of The Java British National Grid Converter and The Java Irish Grid Converter or its suppliers have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

British ational Grid: javabngconverter.jar version 0.04
Irish Grid: javairishgridconverter.jar version 0.04

These programs are stand-alone applications. This means, they do not run inside the internet browser-window.
After downloading try to start them with a double-click. If nothing happens, you'll have to search on your computer for javaw or java.
If they are not existing, you'll have to download the The Java Runtime Environment.
After installing try again starting the programs by double-clicking.
If still nothing happens, try starting the programs with following command line:

javaw -jar javabngconverter.jar or java -jar javabngconverter.jar
javaw -jar javairishgridconverter.jar or java -jar javairishgridconverter.jar

If you haven't downloaded the JRE and an error occurs you may have an old version of the JRE. This program was compiled with version 1.6.0-b105.

When you are moving the mouse over an element (e.g. textfield) of the program, a tooltip with a short description appears.
The program is not very tolerant to input errors.
An example: spaces between numbers are not allowed: NR 12 34, only this is allowed: NR1234

The transformation from the OSGB36 to the WGS84 map-date is only accurate to a maximum value of 5 m. At the images below you can see the differences between this program and the exact value. Click on the images to enlarge.
